HOW IT GOT STARTED
The Full Story
So you may have guessed, I'm not really a male mental heatlh guru, but I am a guru on my own mental health and I believe by talking about it I can help others to do the same.
So what’s my story?
I suffer from PTSD and have done for 30 odd years. It’s Complex PTSD (see my blog post to know what that means) and was treated in 2013 with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. This was relatively new at the time and was only being offered to complex cases. It’s not combat PTSD by the way, again, have a look at my blog. I’ve managed to get to the point where I consider it under control in that it doesn’t distress me much when the memory surfaces. Certainly a lot less than it used to anyway.
Otherwise I’m a normal chap, practice mindfulness and karate. Currently I work for IBM in an account management/sales role and run a side business with my fiancée Debbie. I’ve got two “kids” who are both grown up and living life independently and well. Debbie has two “kids” too, one at Uni, the other college. We have two dogs who, despite being brought up together, are chalk and cheese.

So what can you expect?
I’m passionate about spreading the word that it’s ok to talk, #letstalk, about men’s mental health and our emotions! I’ve found most people, if not all, very receptive when I talk about my own experiences but that they are reticent to reciprocate. So I want this to be a space where we can talk about our mental health and emotions, freely, without judgement. That means I’ll be posting all sorts of stuff about it, encouraging others to join the conversation and sharing guest posts from others who are willing to join in, and a few who may not be!
